Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi Secures Silver Medal at IFSC Climbing World Cup Chamonix 2025

CHAMONIX – Indonesia’s pride in climbing, Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi, successfully claimed a silver medal at the 2025 IFSC Climbing World Cup in the speed discipline in Chamonix, France, on Saturday night (July 13th) Chamonix time. Desak had to concede victory to Polish athlete Aleksandra Miroslaw in the final round.

In a fierce final duel, Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi clocked a time of 6.46 seconds. However, Miroslaw performed faster with a time of 6.19 seconds, securing the top position and the gold medal. This achievement marks Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi’s second medal this year, following her previous gold medal in the Krakow, Poland series.

Unfortunately, Desak’s success was not replicated by the three other Indonesian representatives in the speed discipline, who ended their journey earlier in the round of sixteen. Another Indonesian female speed climber, Rajiah Sallsabillah, who recorded a time of 7.07 seconds, was defeated by Polish athlete Natalia Kalucka, who achieved 6.72 seconds.

Meanwhile, in men’s speed, Kiromal Katibin also had to halt his progress after experiencing a slip while competing against Italian representative Matteo Zurloni before crossing the finish line. Katibin recorded a time of 5.28 seconds, slower than Zurloni’s 5.24 seconds. Raharjati Nursamsa was eliminated due to a fall in the same round while facing Erik Noya Cardona from Spain, despite showing a faster climb before his fall.

In the men’s speed discipline, the gold medal was ultimately won by Samuel Watson from the United States, who defeated Rishat Khaibullin from Kazakhstan in the final. Watson recorded a time of 4.65 seconds, very close to his own world record (4.64 seconds) achieved in Bali.

For the Lead discipline, Indonesian male representatives did not manage to qualify for the semifinals. Musauwir placed 57th, and Muhammad Rizky Syahrafli Simatupang in 58th. Meanwhile, Indonesia’s female Lead representative, Sukma Lintang Cahyani, placed 28th in the qualification round, just outside the top 24 positions that would have advanced to the semifinals. Next, the Indonesian men’s and women’s Lead teams will continue their fight in the next series of the IFSC Climbing World Cup 2025 in Madrid, Spain, on July 18-19, 2025.
