Bali to Host IFSC World Cup 2025
JAKARTA – Indonesia has once again been entrusted with hosting an international sporting event. This time, Indonesia has been selected as the venue for one of the series of the IFSC Climbing World Cup 2025.
The Indonesian Climbing Federation (FPTI), as the organizer, has chosen Peninsula Island, Nusa Dua, Bali, as the location for this prestigious event. The climbing world cup is scheduled to take place from May 2-4, 2025.
IFSC Climbing World Cup Event Director, Prof. Robertus Robet, stated that FPTI had recently held an audience with Bali Governor I Wayan Koster. During the meeting, the governor expressed his full support for the event’s success. Moreover, at the Paris 2024 Olympics, sport climbing contributed a gold medal for Indonesia, further boosting enthusiasm.
Additionally, one of Indonesia’s sport climbing Olympians from Paris 2024 hails from Bali, further motivating both the Bali Provincial Government and its people to support and ensure the success of the IFSC Climbing World Cup 2025.
“We are delighted and grateful that Bali Governor I Wayan Koster is fully committed and all out in supporting the climbing world cup in Bali,” Prof. Robet stated on Sunday, March 9, 2025.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Police Inspector General Herry Heryawan, explained that Peninsula Island, Bali, was selected after careful consideration. One of the main reasons is that Bali is a world-class tourist destination known for its breathtaking natural beauty.
Moreover, the supporting infrastructure in Nusa Dua, Bali, meets international standards, making it an ideal venue for world-class events.
“Peninsula Island offers a spectacular ocean view, creating an iconic backdrop that enhances the appeal of an international event. This aligns with our efforts, together with the government, to promote sports tourism and boost tourist visits,” he said.
Herry further revealed that around 30 countries are expected to participate, with each country, including Indonesia, sending 10 climbers. Indonesia will field its best athletes, including Rajiah Salsabillah, Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi, and the Paris 2024 Olympic gold medalist, Veddriq Leonardo.
He hopes that Indonesian climbers, including Desak Rita, representing her home province of Bali, can achieve outstanding results in this world championship. “Hopefully, Indonesia can emerge as the champion on home soil,” he added.
Indonesia, through FPTI, has previously hosted the IFSC Climbing World Cup three times, all in Jakarta—specifically in SCBD Jakarta and the Gelora Bung Karno Senayan Complex. On one occasion, the global climbing community awarded the IFSC Climbing World Cup in SCBD Jakarta as the best urban climbing world cup ever held.
