National Selection 2025 National Sport Climbing Training Camp for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics
The Indonesian Climbing Federation (FPTI) is organizing the National Selection for the 2025 Climbing National Training Camp at Hotel Santika Harapan Indah, Bekasi, on Friday-Saturday, December 20-21, 2024. This selection aims to identify and prepare the best athletes to strengthen the Main National Training Team and enhance Indonesia’s climbing achievements to meet the target for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
The long-term goal of this selection is to improve, maintain, and increase the medal count in the speed climbing discipline and qualify athletes in the lead and boulder disciplines for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, as well as build a strong team to compete in international competitions.
The National Selection will involve talented athletes from across Indonesia who have been previously invited by FPTI. The selection process will be conducted transparently and professionally by the National Training Team, along with medical professionals and psychologists from the Indonesian Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora RI).
The assessment process in this selection does not only focus on technical aspects such as skill and ability but also considers non-technical factors like mental resilience, physical capability, and overall health of the athletes.
The two-day selection process will also include previous national training camp athletes who have been part of the team since 2021. Notably, those who fail to meet the coaches’ criteria due to declining performance or retirement will be replaced by new athletes from the selection process. Meanwhile, athletes who still demonstrate potential and performance improvement will be retained.
In addition to replacing degraded athletes, FPTI will also expand the quota for the National Training Camp, not merely filling the vacant spots. As a result, Pristiawan Buntoro, the Secretary-General of FPTI, has reaffirmed his commitment to elevating the quality and achievements of Indonesian climbing.
“This National Selection serves no other purpose than to enhance the quality and achievements of Indonesian climbing on the global stage,” he concluded.
