Indonesia Secures Two Bronze Medals in Speed Category at World Cup Bali 2025

The Indonesian National Sport Climbing Team secured two bronze medals in the men’s and women’s speed categories at the IFSC Climbing World Cup 2025, Saturday (May 3, 2025), at Peninsula Island, Nusa Dua, Bali.

The two bronze medals were won by Kadek Adi Asih and Kiromal Katibin.

Kadek Adi Asih clocked 7.275 seconds, defeating South Korean athlete Jeong Jimin, who slipped and finished in 9.00 seconds. The gold medal in the women’s speed category was won by Polish athlete Aleksandra Miroslaw with a time of 6.374 seconds, beating China’s Zhou Yafei who recorded 8.121 seconds.

After the match, Kadek Adi Asih was overwhelmed with gratitude. As a newcomer to the national training camp, she managed to bring home a bronze medal for Indonesia in her debut at a world championship.

“Actually, my coach didn’t set any targets for me. The main thing was to perform at my best and give everything for Team Indonesia,” she said.

Meanwhile, the men’s speed bronze medal was secured by Kiromal Katibin with a time of 4.818 seconds, defeating his compatriot Nursamsa Raharjati, who clocked 6.42 seconds.

The men’s speed gold medal was won by USA’s Samuel Watson, who broke the world record twice — once in the semifinals with 4.677 seconds and again in the final with 4.648 seconds — defeating Japan’s Ryo Omasa, who had a false start in the final round.

Kiromal Katibin actually had a strong chance of winning gold, but unfortunately slipped during the semifinal against Ryo Omasa, finishing in 6.72 seconds, while Omasa recorded 4.995 seconds.

Kiromal also expressed gratitude for earning the bronze medal, repeating his result from last week’s world championship in China. He hopes to improve his timing and maintain composure in future competitions.

“Thank God I was able to win bronze. I’d like to thank the Indonesian people for supporting us, Team Indonesia,” he said.

Responding to the two bronze medals in the men’s and women’s speed categories, the President of the Indonesian Climbing Federation (PP FPTI), Yenny Wahid, praised the efforts of the Indonesian climbers. She especially commended Balinese athlete Kadek Adi Asih for her surprise success in her debut.

“Our athletes have given their best and I truly appreciate it. Especially the sweet surprise from Kadek Adi Asih, who is still very young—only 19 years old. She wasn’t really expected to win, but she managed to secure a bronze medal,” she said.

The IFSC Climbing World Cup Bali 2025 will continue with the Lead category. Yenny Wahid stated that for the Lead event, PP FPTI has not set any medal targets but hopes the athletes can improve Indonesia’s current ranking in the global top 20. (rri.co.id)
